Based on Carlo Goldoni's classic Italian commedia del arte-styled play, this "Servant of Two Masters" has been translated and adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher and Paolo Emilio Landi. Performances are Friday and Saturday nights, from Aug. 6 through Sept. 4. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for picnics, and the show starts at 8 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to come early with their picnics, chairs and jackets. The Kennedy Mine Amphitheatre is located on North Main Street in Jackson, next to the Country Squire Motel.
This adaptation has been described as "a Bob Hope or Woody Allen comedy, written by Monty Python and performed by Chaplin." In the story, the madcap and always-hungry servant, Truffaldino, does his best to serve two masters, in hopes of an extra meal and some extra pocket change. But is food what he's really hungry for, or is he hungry for his true love, Smeraldina? From beginning to end, the audience is caught up, and included, in the zany madness of an Italian circus setting, complete with outrageous costumes, mistaken identities, thwarted lovers and irate fathers.
Coming off the heels of "Treasure Island," MSTW is thrilled to once again have some of the area's finest actors on their stage. Leading the cast of colorful characters is Brent Randolph as Truffaldino. Randolph was last seen in "Treasure Island," in multiple roles, including the unforgettable Ben Gunn.
The show also includes MSTW regular Julie Anchor, in the dual role of Beatrice and Federigo. Anchor starred in last year's "Around the World in 80 Days." Ben Miller stars as Florindo, Beatrice's true love. Miller was also in "Treasure Island," as Captain Smollett and the pirate, Black Dog. Other cast members include Carissa Meager as one of the young lovers, Clarice. Meager performed last summer as Sabine in "The Three Musketeers." Also in the cast is a newcomer to the MSTW stage, Brandon Lancaster, who plays the other young lover, Silvio.
Adult tickets are $17.50, students and children under 18 are $12, and a family pack (two adult tickets, two student/children tickets) is available for $49. Tickets are available at the gate or online at www.mstw.org.
